Psychological Counselling/Therapy – Counselling/Therapy sessions are usually of a one hour duration. They may include parent(s) only, parent(s) and child together or the child only, depending on the issues. Counselling sessions may follow a psychological assessment. These sessions usually have a problem-solving focus. Counselling/therapy can be provided for the following issues: anxiety, depression, bullying, social skills, self-esteem, grief and loss, parenting skills and behaviour management.
Psychological Assessment - This assessment measures the child's psychological functioning. It may be specific - eg. assessment of an anxiety disorder, or a more general assessment of the child's overall level of psychological health.
Intellectual Assessment - This assessment measures the child's IQ. It provides information about the child's overall level of intellectual functioning as well as language processing, reasoning, attention, visual processing, planning and organisational ability, verbal and non-verbal learning and memory. An intellectual assessment will assist in the identification of learning difficulties, as well as in the identification of giftedness.
Academic Assessment - These assessments measure the child's achievement in reading, writing, spelling, phonemic awareness and mathematics compared to other children of the same age / grade level. The assessment instruments used are diagnostic and provide specific, detailed information about the child's strengths and weaknesses in these areas.
Psycho-Educational Assessment - This is a comprehensive battery, including both intellectual and academic assessment, as well as an assessment of the child's psychological functioning (eg. self-esteem).
Scholarship Preparation - This involves providing information about the type of test that will be given (this will differ depending on the school offering the scholarship), an opportunity to sit a 'practice' test, feedback on performance and provision of strategies for sitting a scholarship examination.
Preparation of applications for the ‘Program for Students with Disabilities’. This program operates in Victorian government schools and provides funding to support the integration of eligible students’ at school.
